Hijacking the Debate

13 Jan 2012

The video clip attached is a great example of how the debate about the Northern Gateway Pipeline is being hijacked, and how it is taking the focus away from the real issues facing us. I applaud Evan Solomon for continuing to push the questioning to Kathryn Marshall about where Ethical Oil‘s funding comes from. We need more journalists like him who don’t accept canned media massaged messages. Transparency about funding is an important issue. Ethical Oil’s refusal to divulge their funding sources does them more harm than if they just came clean. By not answering the question, everyone is going to assume that Enbridge is helping to fund Ethical OIl, and it makes it look underhanded. Arguing louder and not answering the questions does not make you right.
